The last few weeks I've been learning about the HAAS TL-1 Toolroom lathe in El Camino's Southbay Los Angeles machinist training program.  It uses Conversational programming, and once you've used it a few days it becomes much easier.

While in the class I documented the basic steps to getting started.  If you are interested follow this link and go down about 1/2 page:  http://venicemachine.com/Technical/Waiver/waiver.htm

We have one of these in our toolroom. I have used it a couple times, it's a nice machine. Our also has Quick Code. I haven't used that conversational hybrid stuff. Just straight up calculator and G-code... Smiley

I'm starting to move all my manual-lathe work over to the HAAS TL-1 on the basis that once I've nailed the conversational programming everything will go faster.  These list at just under $22K, so I think the small shop would get a bigger bang for the buck by getting a manual with DRO and spending good money on a full CNC.  Still, these are pretty nice if you have a big shop or happen to have a hybrid toolroom lathe around.

El Camino just got in a bunch of 3 axis Kent CNC/Knee mills, so I'll probably start figuring them out this week.
