Recently I have had some time to play on the Lathe side of things. I do not have much time with Lathe programming, but through working with one of our lathe guys, I just wanted to share something we did.

I was able to program a complex contour on MasterCam mill and generate all "X" and "Y" code. Then with the help of one of our lathe guys we put the straight up XY code in the Haas and used a G112 code to translate it.

The G112 code translates the XY moves to XC moves. This created our complex contour profile as simple as that. No complex "C" axis figuring and programming.

I was concerned because Lathes' "X" are diameter scale, but using the XY code with the G112, it translated in a scale 1 to 1.

This new understanding of G112 will greatly open up new potential for living tooling in our shop.

disclaimer: We don't have a Lathe side to MasterCam thus the reason for playing with alternate avenues to get things down.

If have posted with on my new blog also: http://www.mastercamblog.com/?p=71
